Side of a box, late 17th century. Worked completely in
beads apart from the old man's hat which may have been
of a more perishable material such as feathers, or the
beads were secured with black thread which has decayed.
Derived from a traditional medieval figure, the old man
sits incongruously before his fire in a leafy landscape.
